Getting the Illustration that’s Right for Your Project

Illustration Tip: getting the illustration that's right for your project

  • Review a wide variety of artist portfolios to find a style that you love.
  • Find out the artist’s policies: will you be provided with an estimate, or billed hourly? Will you be allowed feedback and changes, or are you purchasing the final illustration as is?
  • Talk clearly about your needs and your project. Artists are sensitive people. (That can be a good thing!) They often can pick up on the mood you’re after if you describe it as well as possible.
  • Show examples of illustration styles you like. This can fill in the gaps your words can’t describe.
